How did the Vymex team develop?

  • 2018 — the idea of Vymex emerges as Ruslan Yumahulov's consulting practice.
  • 2020 — the first hire: a mathematics teacher from a leading Ukrainian university. At the end of the year we begin forming the product team and calculating the cost of implementation.
  • May 2021 — 7 people (~6 full-time equivalents). Goals and a roadmap are formed, followed by scaling development and launching marketing.
  • End of 2021 — 41 people (39 FTE); 23.02.2022 — 45 people (44.9 FTE, almost all full-time), two thirds of them engineers. The plan for mid-2022 was about 60 FTE.
  • Spring 2022 — a week before the invasion, the team was ready for crisis mode (salaries cut to as little as a third). Some people switched to part-time work because of reduced salaries but stayed with the product. In August 2022 we released a non-commercial Beta on iOS and Android (native apps) to show the product to investors.
  • Autumn 2022 — after mobilization was announced in russia and massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, investors withdrew their commitments. In October 2022 the team was cut to two full-time positions to keep costs at a minimum, but most of the team continued to support the company for free.
  • 2023–2024 — minimal investment; in October 2023 we brought back a designer and began preparing the web version; in spring 2024, a minimal restart of marketing (~5 FTE) and advisors. At the end of 2024, another downsizing, but a new design, a description of the product and technologies, and a plan that keeps the 2021 goals were completed.
  • January 2025 — investment in the first commercial web version and planned hiring: some former members returned, some new specialists joined. As of August 2025 — 18 people (~13 FTE), two thirds of them engineers.
  • September–October 2025 — we failed to raise the remaining $50K of the funds promised by an investor: the team switched to part-time work, and by October development had stopped.
  • Since October 2025 — the system has been maintained and developed by two people, the founder and the mathematician; the rest of the team and the advisors join when needed. The beta was built with the help of AI.
  • October 2026 — the commercial version app.vymex.com was launched (the "Early Access" stage).
